HELP DOCUMENT
This School Locator Web application offers the user four types of searches. Each search is described below along with instructions on how to use the searches. Click on the topic below to be directed to it.
Search #1 – Search for your home school
based on your address
This search allows the user to enter their home address and
will show the appropriate attendance area schools based on the address
submitted by the user.
Step 1: Enter the required address fields
Enter your home address by filling
in the appropriate boxes.
All fields should be entered as

Click ‘Find Your
Step 2: Select the Appropriate Address
The user will be asked to Select the appropriate address. If the address was entered incorrectly, the
user will receive a popup message requesting the user to try again, or contact
(773) 553-3270 if the problem persists.
Occasionally addresses are valid but are not recognized in the City of
Step 3: Click the correct address
The user will be returned with school information which corresponds to the student’s corresponding home schools. Select the school which matches the grade level of the student.
Step 4:
Select the relevant school by
clicking the School Name
The map will now zoom to the
corresponding school’s attendance area.
The attendance boundary is highlighted in red.
The school name will also be highlighted in red and the address entered will be highlighted in yellow.
Step 5 (Optional): Search Again
Use this button to return to the
Search Menu
Search # 2
– Search for
schools near the vicinity of your address
This search allows the user to enter an address to search for schools within the vicinity of the address entered.
Step 1: Enter the required address fields
Enter your home address by filling
in the appropriate boxes.
All fields should be entered as
follows: Example:
Click “Find Schools Within
Your Vicinity”
Step 2:
Select the Appropriate Address
Search results will return all schools within the vicinity of the
requested address.
Step 3:
Zoom to a school by clicking on the
school name.
The map will display all of the
schools within the search radius.
The address entered will be centered
within the search radius.
The school selected will be
highlighted in red.
Step 4 (Optional):
Search Again
Use this button to return to the
Search Menu
Search #3 – Search by School Name
This search allows the
user to search for a school by school name.
Step 1:
From the dropdown list of school names, select the school of your choice.
Step 2:
Once the selected
school is shown, click on the button “
Step 3
The search results will display
information about the selected school.
Step 4
Click on the school name to display
the school location on the map.
Step 5 (Optional): Search Again
Use this button to return to the
Search Menu
Search #4 – Search by Programs
This search allows the
user to pick from a list of schools by Program Type.
Step 1:
From the dropdown list of program types, select the program type of your
choice.
Step 2
Once the selected program type is
shown, click on the button “
Step 3
Click on the school name to display the school location on the map.
Step 4 (Optional)
Use this button to return to the
Search Menu

Zoom In
|
Click
once in the map to zoom in on a particular location or click, hold and drag a
box to define a ‘zoom in’ area. The
‘Zoom In’ tool is the default tool selected when the map initially opens. |

Frame will refresh and the area of interest will appear ‘closer’. Layer rendering may be triggered resulting
in new layers being added to the map frame, resulting in a dynamic change of
the table of contents frame. |

Zoom Out

Click
once in the map to zoom out. The ‘Zoom
Out’ tool centers the map on the position where you click the mouse. Click, hold and drag to return to the full
extent of the map. |

in layers being deleted from the map frame, resulting in a dynamic change of
the table of contents frame. |

Pan the Map

and drag in the map window to move around the city. |

Print Map

Creates
a map image for printing from browser. |

contains the main map frame, the locator or toggle map frame, and a legend
that includes all visible data layers. |

clicks this button and a new pop-up window will appear. |
The
window displays a list of map choices such as Elementary Area 1, or High
School Region 4. Additionally, an 81/2
x 11 or 11 x 17 page size can be chosen. |
A .pdf file that the user can save to his/her own computer,
or print directly. |
